South High is one of four high schools serving the City of Worcester. Through an MSBA study it was determined that a new, 40% larger school should be built to replace the existing building in order to address the growing population and demands on the school. The new building will provide modern labs, auditoriums, daycare and spaces more conducive to progressive learning environments. The site will have new multipurpose performance and practice fields, bleachers, press box, playgrounds, and flexible plaza spaces to support student activities. Complex grading and spatial programming fit the proposed project around the existing building so the school can remain active throughout construction. Biodetention basins address stormwater and create viewing gardens from classrooms. The project is in construction with anticipated completion in 2022.
