Dock House
Location: Coastal Massachusetts
Architect: Drake Design Studio
Completed: Completed Fall 2015
The previous cottage suffered from long-term storm damage and flooding. The stone revetment, commonly constructed in the ‘60’s, was smooth faced and steeply sloped enhancing the powerful wave action on this exposed shoreline. As part of the project, the revetment was reconstructed removing the smooth mortar and decreasing the angle of face. Along with the site grading to deflect water from the building, the finished floor was elevated beyond current FEMA flood maps to accommodate changing storm conditions. Reinforced sand paths and large decks provide a casual sensibility to the site populated with native dune plantings.
