Location: Boston, Massachusetts

The Carter School is unique among the Boston Public School system because of its student population that present with both severe, intensive disabilities and complex health needs. This project is all about inclusive and sensory design. A new building will provide the facilities, indoor and out, to expand these students’ opportunities to learn and grow in a vibrant, sensory challenging and engaging new school. The importance of both active and restorative/passive spaces are crucial to the students’ success in the school environment. These exterior spaces are being carefully designed and integrated through each level of the building. The majority of exterior space is on the level 3 roof plate where a series of activities will be laid out and linked with a path system to create distinct, yet connecting programs.
This project is currently in the Construction Document phase with anticipated completion in 2024.
