Starr Plaza
Location: Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts
Completed: Summer 2019
Starr Plaza is the core outdoor space at the Administration buildings, including the President’s Office, on campus. Previously the space focused on circulation as opposed to destination. Stairs down to the plaza core came from the campus boulevard and adjacent buildings. The renovation raises the plaza nearly 3′ in height to create universal access from the campus boulevard to an expanded plaza and each building entry. Porous pavers make up the core of the plaza with honey locust trees providing shade and scale. Seat walls define the space with wood benches and native planting. The space is now be used for alumni events and other campus gatherings.
