The renovations to the Hospital of the Future at the BMC include transforming the ballast-filled roof space adjacent to a glass hallway and patient rooms. The program for the space is flexible/active to contrast with the existing roof space that has a more contemplative/passive feel across the corridor. The hospital needs a space where families and staff can gather, play and get some fresh air during stressful times. Spaces are openly designed to accommodate fitness classes, metrics for a walking loop, outdoor breakout work sessions and exterior dining. Concrete pedestal pavers will be heated to reduce stress of snowloads and artificial turf areas allow for prone fitness classes and bermed challenge spaces. An A/V setup will allow for family movie nights and fund raising events. The space is designed to buffer the adjacent patient rooms, provide beautiful year-round, low maintenance planting.
This project has completed conceptual design and commenced fund raising.
